University Health Care System has a long-standing commitment to Columbia County. More than 20 years ago, University invested in a 68-acre parcel in Evans, anticipating the county's growing health care needs.
As Columbia County's population grows, so does University's commitment to serve this community. As technology advances and more procedures are performed on an outpatient basis, our patients tell us they prefer receiving their outpatient care close to home.
On Nov. 17, 2006, fofficials from University Health Care System and Columbia County broke ground on the 60,000-square-foot, $13 million Professional Center 4. Construction on the new building and parking structure - the first in Columbia County - was completed in December 2007. It is now home to the Evans Imaging Center, a state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging center, and will soon house several other medical practices and offices.
Planning and completing a project of this magnitude took a tremendous team of people from architects to physicians. We are greatly indebted to those people, especially the pioneering physicians who established our services on this campus because they saw a need.
The campus will continue to grow, not only as a health care resource for Columbia County, but also as a community partner. In May, University presents its annual POPS! Under the Stars event, featuring the Augusta Symphony. The concert, which is free and open to the public, draws thousands of people every year.
The Evans Campus and its community involvement are part of University's long-term commitment to Columbia County residents. We could not be more pleased with the support we have received from the community and the invaluable guidance offered by the commission, the chamber, the development authority and many others. We look forward to being Columbia County's health care provider of choice for many years to come.
